EPA Raises Civil Penalties for Environmental Noncompliance
In the Federal Register today, the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) posted an Interim Final Rule to raise civil penalties for violations of environmental law and EPA regulations. Penalties are being raised to match inflation as mandated under the Federal Civil Penalties Inflation Adjustment Act of 1990.6/30/2016
Brewery Fined $2.8 Million for Clean Water Act Violations
In a June 23 press release,US EPA announced a consent decree between EPA, the US Department of Justice, and a beer brewer that operates two large-scale breweries in Pottsville, Pennsylvania. According to the press release, the brewer allegedly violated the Clean Water Act by discharging industrial waste to municipal publicly owned treatment works (POTWs).6/29/2016
