Repeat OSHA Violations Lead to Big Fine for Foundry
An OSHA workplace safety inspection uncovered multiple repeat violations of work safety requirements that will cost a Franklin, OH foundry $143,000 in penalties. According to OSHA, the company exposed employees to amputation, hearing loss, and respiratory hazards and failed to train employees on the hazardous chemicals used in the workplace as required under OSHA’s Hazard Communication Standard (29 CFR 1910.1200).6/22/2016

Clean Air Act, CERCLA, and EPCRA Fines for Food Processor
For alleged violations of multiple US environmental laws and regulations stemming from a release of anhydrous ammonia, a bakery and distribution company in Chelsea and Lawrence, MA will pay $156,000 in civil penalties. In addition to the fine, the company will furnish emergency response equipment to local emergency responders, at an estimated cost of $119,000.6/16/2016
DOT Announces Million Dollar Hazmat Grant Program
The US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) announced on Friday the availability of $1 million in grant funding to support hazmat emergency response training in the US. Created under the Fixing America’s Surface Transportation Act (FAST Act), the grant money is earmarked for safety training for hazardous materials professionals or hazmat training for Federal and State enforcement personnel.
