Revised USPS Hazmat Packaging Standards for Mail

Effective immediately, the US Postal Service revised the standards for mailing hazmat/DG to require "rigid outer packaging" of a minimum strength for most materials. In the same rule, USPS updated mailing standards for lithium batteries and removed restrictions on nonregulated toxic materials.

Update 01/28/25: EPA has delayed the effective date for a Final Rule that prohibits manufacturing, processing, and distribution of trichloroethylene (TCE) under TSCA §6. The new effective date is March 21, 2025.
