IATA Posts Addendum I to the 2018 DGR

59th-Edition-IATA-DGR.jpgOn December 22, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released Addendum I to its 59th Edition Dangerous Goods Regulations (DGR), in effect for hazmat air shippers as of January 1, 2018.

Published annually, the IATA DGR is the primary manual used by the world’s dangerous goods air shippers to ensure compliance with international and domestic air regulations. The 59th Edition DGR, available here, took effect on January 1 this year.

The Addendum makes the following updates to the 59th Edition IATA DGR text:
 
  • Adds new operator variations from UPS, Air Canada, Air France, and others mostly pertaining to lithium battery shipments.
  • Adds a requirement from many carriers to indicate the number of packages marked with the lithium battery mark in the “Nature and quantity of goods” box on the air waybill.
  • Adds rules for passengers and crew traveling with battery-powered “smart luggage.”
  • Expands documentation requirements for excepted quantities accompanied by a bill of lading or air waybill.
  • Replaces certain hazmat labels pictured in Section 7: the Class 9 lithium battery label, the Magnetized Material label, the Cargo Aircraft Only label, the Cryogenic Liquid label, the Keep Away from Heat label, and the alternate orientation arrow design.
