2020 IATA Lithium Battery Guidance Now Available
Recently, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) released its 2020 Lithium Battery Guidance Document for shippers who offer lithium-ion or lithium-metal batteries for air transport.

The guidance document lays out key definitions, restrictions, and other information needed to properly prepare and offer lithium battery air shipments. It also includes a useful flowchart for classifying lithium batteries for transport.

Manufacturers and distributors may make the test summary available by posting it on a company website or by preparing a paper document. The guidance document explicitly states that “(t)here is no expectation for the shipper/distributor to provide paper copies with each consignment containing lithium batteries.”
