PHMSA and OSHA to Hold Pre-UN Regulatory Meetings Next Week
To prepare for international regulatory meetings at the United Nations, both OSHA and the US DOT Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) will hold pre-UN meetings open to industry stakeholders and the public.

49 CFR Hazmat Update: Emergency Response Phone Numbers
Last week, US DOT’s Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) posted a long list of major (and not-so-major) changes to the 49 CFR hazmat shipping rules. Among these changes was an important update regarding the emergency response phone number shippers must provide on the shipping papers for most hazmat shipments.

Army Corps of Engineers Proposes to Modify Dredge & Fill Nationwide Permits
In today’s Federal Register, the US Army Corps of Engineers proposed to modify and reissue existing Nationwide Permits (NWPs) for discharge of dredged or fill material into the waters of the US. In addition to updating the existing NWPs, the proposal seeks to add two new permits.6/1/2016
Kansas Foundry Could Pay $28,975 for Stormwater Violations
To settle allegations it violated the Clean Water Act stormwater requirements, a foundry in Coffeyville, KS will pay $28,975 and fund/implement a Supplemental Environmental Project (SEP) valued at $600,000. The settlement is open to public comment at EPA’s website, here.

Electroplating Operator Indicted for RCRA Storage Violations
The former operator of a now-closed electroplating facility in Cedar Falls, IA has been indicted by a Federal grand jury on one count of unlawful storage of hazardous waste stemming from the discovery of drums of toxic and corrosive waste stored at the facility after it closed.5/31/2016
