Can US FAA Penalize Non-US Shippers for Hazmat Mistakes?
A German lighting company now faces $117,480 in civil penalties from US FAA for alleged violations of hazmat air shipping regulations. The company offered 9.6 liters of a flammable liquid (glue) for air transport from Düsseldorf to Chicago. In a February 24 press release, FAA alleges that the shipment exceeded the quantity limits for flammable liquids shipped by passenger aircraft.2/16/2016
The 4 Types of Hazardous Waste Shipments

In a February 11 press release, the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced a proposed $455,000 civil penalty against a freight carrier for alleged violations of hazardous materials shipping regulations.2/4/2016
New Hazmat Limited Quantity Exception Effective Feb. 22
In January, US DOT gave hazmat shippers more flexibility by incorporating 96 hazmat special permits into the text of the Hazardous Materials Regualtions (HMR). In doing so, it allowed all hazmat shippers to capitalize on exceptions and reliefs previously reserved for those approved to use these special permits.2/4/2016
